Poros Archaeological Survey, HIMA

Participation on the underwater archaeological excavation conducted by the HIMA, under the direction of the archaeologist Christos Agouridis, at the Late Bronze age shipwreck off the island of Modi (south east of the island of Poros). The wreck was located and surveyed during preliminary research campaigns (2005, 2006 and 2007). During the systematic excavation of the wreck, carried out in the years that followed (2009, 2010 and 2013), eleven out of sixteen sectors of the site were investigated extensively and a considerable amount of ceramics from the ship’s cargo (jars, hydrias, jugs, etc) was brought to the surface, together with animal bones, stone tools and a few metal objects. A geo-archaeological survey is also carried out in collaboration with the Laboratory of Marine Geology and Physical Oceanography, University of Patras, under the coordination of the Associate Professor George Papatheodorou.
