Kassandra Mines
We are in the mines of northeastern Chalkidiki. A place where the military commander Alexander the Great obtained the gold for his campaigns and the legendary Alexis Zorbas worked. The beloved poet of sailors and seamen, Nikos Kavvadias, fell in love here. It is the place that entire generations of miners have worked. This is a brief overview and presentation of the history of the “Kassandra Mines”, from the antiquity until today. It is a time travel to one of the world’s longest-running mining operations.
Our future goal is the production of an hourly documentary, where there the history of mining in the wider area of Kassandra will be documented in detailed, as well as the process of metal extracting, along with the mining methods through the centuries.
